There’s so much to love about the Speckled Sussex. These backyard chickens are prolific producers. You can expect to receive between 240 to 260 eggs per year. You’ll love that they produce light brown, cream and tan large eggs although, some may produce olive green colored eggs. These are rare, however. Best of all, your Speckled Sussex will produce even when it’s cold.

Your Speckled Sussex will be a great meat producer, although they are slow to mature. Speckled Sussex chickens have been recognized since 1914. It’s easy-to-see why they’ve been a fan favorite for more than 100 years. It’s been a famous English table fowl. Your bird’s pinkish white skin and deep body make it ideal for fattening.
You’ll love the variety of colors: brown, buff, light, red, speckled, silver, white and Coronation. They’re beautiful when young but the Speckled Sussex just gets more beautiful with age. Their speckles increase each time they molt.
You’ll enjoy how they have an alert but docile temperament. Don’t be surprised if they follow you around the yard begging for treats.
These birds aren’t prone to flying. It’s easy to fence them in your yard.
Your Speckled Sussex is great at foraging which makes it cost effective to feed. Over time your bird will grow to 7-9 lbs.
